The postgraduate specialist study “Early Intervention in Educational Rehabilitation” was established in 2006 on the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences at the initiative of its Head Prof. Marta Ljubešić, PhD as an answer to a need for expert development for the work with youngest children born with factors of neurodevelopmental risk or with developmental difficulties, and for the work with their families.

This postgraduate study is conceived as an interdisciplinary study providing specific knowledge and skills necessary for detecting early disorders and creating efficient, scientifically supported interventions, and for their evaluation.

Knowledge

The programme of study provides knowledge on several levels:

  1. level of fundamental knowledge of development in the earliest childhood, developmental risks, and aberrations from normal development;
  2. level of specific knowledge of early detection of developmental disorders and principles of conducting efficient programmes and
  3. level of developing skills necessary for the work with the parents of children with developmental risks/difficulties with the aim of their empowerment and promotion of social inclusion of the child and family.

The study has been continuously improving, notably by introducing new elective courses and workshops under guidance of experienced practitioners from both Croatia and abroad.

Competences

Upon the completion of the study, the student is qualified for the work in two fields:

  • with the family of the child with developmental difficulties or risks and
  • with the child in different therapeutic environments: from the parents’ home to social, clinical, or educational institution.

During the study, the students also acquire specific knowledge and skills necessary for interdisciplinary cooperation and team work.
