ERF Leads New Project on Artificial Intelligence for Personalized Movement Analysis

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences (ERF), in partnership with the University of Zagreb Faculty of Kinesiology and CITUS Ltd., officially launched the project “Modelling and Analysis of Personalized and Optimal Movement Patterns in Rehabilitation, Sports and Fitness Using Artificial Intelligence (AI)” on 1 June 2026.

The project is funded under the Collaborative Scientific Research programme and brings together experts in rehabilitation sciences, kinesiology, and information technologies to develop innovative artificial intelligence models for personalized human movement analysis.

The project is based on the premise that optimal movement is not universal but depends on the individual characteristics of each person. By combining advanced sensor systems and artificial intelligence, the research team will develop models enabling more precise assessment, monitoring, and optimization of movement in rehabilitation, sports, and fitness settings. The project outcomes are expected to contribute to more effective rehabilitation interventions, improved injury prevention, and the development of novel digital solutions supporting both professionals and end users.

The project will be implemented over a period of 36 months. Its total value amounts to €880,868.84, of which €810,169.66 is provided through European Union funding.

The project is led by Associate Professor Ana Katušić, PhD, from the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences. The project further strengthens the Faculty’s research capacities and promotes collaboration between academia and industry in developing innovative solutions for rehabilitation and sports.
