Professional title: Bachelor in Educational Rehabilitation (BA)

The undergraduate study of Rehabilitation has been taught since the academic year of 2005/2006. The Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of the Republic of Croatia issued the accreditation for conducting this programme on June 18, 2004, and the license on June 21, 2005. Since the academic year of 2010/2011 it is taught according to the updated programme.

The holder of this degree is authorized to perform professional work in the area of his/her academic degree.

Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences does not offer full degree study programme of Rehabilitation in English language.

Knowledge

The programme of study is based on the basic knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of Education-Rehabilitational Sciences which implies all those processes and functions linked with visual impairments, learning difficulties, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), intellectual disorders, disorders of the autistic spectrum, multiple difficulties, motoric disorders, chronic diseases (developmental motoric disorders, traumatism, autoimmune and malignant diseases, etc.), creative and art/expressive therapies.

Upon the completion of this study, the student acquires competences which make them eligible for employment on the tasks of medium complexity, i.e. under supervision of a holder of the MA degree, in accordance with the Act on Education and Rehabilitational Activities (National Gazette, no. 124, 2011).

Within the framework of the study programme of Rehabilitation, the holders of the BA degree acquire insight into the complementary concepts of the development of education and rehabilitational sciences and develop their professional identity in the following fields: visual impairments, motoric disorders, chronic diseases, and art therapy, as well as in inclusive education and rehabilitation.

Students acquire basis knowledge of diagnostic, educational, and therapeutic procedures, team work, professional ethics, and interdisciplinary communication.

In the parts of the study programme of Rehabilitation concerning the study of phenomenology of persons with difficulties in visual perception, the holders of BA degree acquire the basic knowledge of biological, psychological, and social functioning of persons with difficulties in visual perception, of importance of education and rehabilitational process for the growth and development of children with difficulties in visual perception, and the basic knowledge of the specific characteristics of education programmes which are applied in this field.

Within the framework of the study programme, the students also acquire insights into anthropological dimensions and phenomenology of motoric disorders and chronic diseases; bioethical and deontological principles in the analysis of various problem fields on the chronological continuum during growth and development; various doctrines of psychosocial and complex rehabilitation; early developmental rehabilitation; rehabilitational and conductive education; paradigm of sophrology in the development of discipline; interdisciplinarity (professional ethics and competences); interconnectedness of science (biomedical, humanistic, social and other disciplines) and art; prophylactic and therapeutic function of creativity; transhistorical, transcultural, and contemporary approaches in the concepts of creative and art therapies; as well as other complementary approaches to discovering and supporting life potentials and quality of human life.

Through the part of the study programme concerning the inclusive education and rehabilitation, students acquire the modern understanding of disability in the context of human rights and develop understanding of disability as a consequence of interaction of the impairment and influences of the social context. They come to understand the characteristics of the development and functioning in different environments, of both children and adults with intellectual difficulties, learning difficulties, attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), disorder of the autistic spectrum, and multiple difficulties. They are qualified to apply the basic techniques of education-rehabilitational evaluation and interpret the gathered data, apply the education-rehabilitational procedures with the aim of improving the general functioning, and the functioning within certain (developmental) fields of children with developmental difficulties and persons with disabilities.

Competences

Upon the completion of this study, the holder of the BA degree can participate under supervision of a holder of the MA degree in the:

  • creation and application of programmes of support to early development
  • education and employment
  • inclusion of children with developmental difficulties and persons with disabilities in life of the social community

The students are trained for searching the literature, databases, and other sources of information.

They have highly developed awareness on professional ethics and responsibilities in the practice of education and rehabilitation, as well as the readiness for participating in lifelong learning and recognize its importance.
